History
Sister Justina Violette, founder of Care & Share, was a woman of deep caring and compassion. During her lifetime she cared for the people of Crookston and the surrounding area providing assistance with heating, electricity, car repairs, groceries, clothing, and most importantly kind listening ears. While her operation began through the back door of the Bishop's residence, in 1985 Sister Justina was approached by Father Krebs who asked her if she would like to use the former Cathedral School located in downtown Crookston for her ministry to the poor.
In October of 1986, the doors of Care & Share opened, now Sister Justina could serve people using both the front door and the backdoor. But, Sister also understood that some people would not want to be seen receiving help so she extended her hours to help as many people as she could.
Today, Care & Share consists of a homeless shelter, transitional housing, a soup kitchen, and a food shelf. Over the years, Care & Share has served thousands in Crookston and the surrounding communities.
